Above and beyond
Every year, Screen Ireland produces a Production Slate for members of the Irish film industry and their audiences. Initially, this Production Slate was designed as a downloadable PDF on the Screen Ireland website. However, this feature proved unresponsive and inaccessible, and increasingly failed to live up to the high visual status of Screen Ireland’s brand. As long-standing Kooba clients, Screen Ireland engaged our design team in order to find a creative, slick, and functional solution to this pain point.

A change in direction
To begin with, Kooba set out to design a brochure which was engaging, interactive, and visually attractive. This was accomplished through the use of a horizontal scroll, animated imagery and text, and a menu option to quickly navigate throughout the brochure. This provided a user experience which was enjoyable, smooth, and genuinely entertaining. To further improve the functionality of the brochure, Kooba integrated Screen Ireland’s “Where To Watch” capability throughout the document, helping users immediately watch the films and television shows featured.
Entertainment for all
One key requirement to the Screen Ireland brochure redesign was the improved accessibility of the user experience. PDFs are not an accessible medium, and screen readers can struggle to convey the information contained within them. By replacing the existing PDF brochure with a web based digital solution, Kooba could incorporate best practice accessible design and development principles throughout the brochure. The result is a fully accessible document which can be navigated intuitively by screen readers and other accessibility tools, helping Screen Ireland promote their work to every single user.
Flexible and future-proof
In order to build a truly sustainable solution, Kooba decided to develop a completely flexible template, rather than just a one-off brochure. This allows Screen Ireland to use this format for a wide range of documents beyond the Production Slate. It also future-proofs the project, allowing for changes and improvements to be implemented following feedback from users.
